Thailand Acts on Cambodian Worker Shortage

The plan calls for hiring Thai youth, ex-offenders, and military personnel, registering illegal workers, importing labor from Sri Lanka and Nepal, employing Myanmar refugees, and increasing technology and automation, according to an announcement made on the official PR X account of the Thai government.

According to Cambodia's Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT), more than 900,000 Cambodian migrant workers have returned home across the border in just over two weeks since Thailand's armed incursion into Cambodia on July 24, 2025. Beginning on August 20, MLVT urged businesses to participate in the daily job forums for Cambodians looking for work in each of the 24 provinces.

The forums ought to be held in at least two locations in each province, including offices of the provincial National Social Security Fund as well as technical institutes or centers for vocational training.

There ought to be four of these places in Phnom Penh: the headquarters of the MLVT, the National Institute of Business, the National Technical Training Institute, and the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia.
